The Sims turns 25
The Sims is my favorite game of all time.
I’ve never been super into video games, but The Sims is different for some reason. I received the game for Christmas in 2001 when I was 11 years old. And my life was changed!
Sleepovers weren't complete without playing for hours and my friend and I took turns playing while the other person watched.
The Sims 2 taught me a lot about custom content. I used to make clothes and objects for my game. I also spent time making short videos and music videos using the game. In 11th grade, I even used The Sims for my art history project. It didn’t have much to do with art history, but it was fun and I got an A.
The Sims 3 got me through college. In the summer of 2010, I moved into my first apartment with pretty much nothing. I had my laptop, some cans of food, and a radio. During the first three days in my apartment, I didn’t have anything to unpack, no money to buy new furniture or anything for my apartment, and no friends in town, so I spent 16 hours a day playing Sims 3 with one expansion pack: World Adventures.
It was a few years after The Sims 4 came out before I played the game. I was disappointed with how limited the initial release was, so I kept playing Sims 3 for years. My boyfriend got me the game for Christmas in 2017. It took me a little bit to get used to the gameplay, but a few expansion packs later, I warmed up to the game and have mostly played Sims 4 since then.
This game just means a lot to me. During the COVID era, this game was extra important to me. It allowed me a few hours to escape from the chaos during that time.
It’s crazy that this game has been apart of my life for 25 years. Hopefully it’s apart of my life for 25 more!
P.S.: I don’t hate the Katy Perry expansion pack. 🙈
